Donaldsonville took it's name from founder William Donaldson of New Orleans. It is a city with a population of 7,605. Donaldsonville dates from 1806 when William Donaldson hired Bartholemew Lafon to prepare a street plan. The plan included a semicircular park (Crescent Park) along the Mississippi River and Louisiana Square. Sometime after the city was laid out, plots of the town were made showing property owners, in some case property dimensions and pencil shadings of existing buildings, and streets. The author of these early plots is R. H. Bloomfield as show on plot N17 which is dated 15 Oct. 1877. These plots were made available to Historic River Road Collection© by Mr. James F. Stuart, an extremely well known notable of Donaldsonville. Click the Donaldson Plots link to view these early documents. Mr. James F. Stuart died March 9, 2005 at age 76. He was a friend of Historic River Road Collection and we will surely miss him.
