The antebellum homes of Louisiana and the South are
of some pride, both by the families that ordered and financed them, and by the
labor that raised them. Most plantation homes no longer exist. They
were the victims of fire, flood, hurricane, civil war, and age. We
present a list of plantations that once existed including the few that
remain.
Of those few still surviving, the pride of this region is demonstrated by
the stateliness and majesty of Nottoway Plantation, Oak Alley, San Francisco
and several others.
