Dickinson's 1883 survey includes this area view of the plantation of White Castle, owned by George Wailes. Upriver but nearby is the plantation of Nottaway, owned by John Randolph. Click on the thumbnail picture to see it full size. Copyright 2005©. Historic River Road Collection©. All Rights Reserved. Rumors abound, incorrectly, that this little town called White Castle acquired its name from the residents opinion of Nottaway Plantation. Even some web sites incorrectly assign White Castle's name as a result of Nottoway. The 1883 Dickinson survey map clearly shows that Nottaway and White Castle existed separately. The George Wailes plantation called White Castle is the location of the present town. White Castle is a town of just under 2000 people.
